What makes a racket good for beginners

The usual advice for a first padel racket comes down to three things, and this guide applies all three to the catalogue:

A round shape
The sweet spot sits near the centre of the face, so off-centre hits still go where you meant them to.
A soft or medium-soft feel
A softer core sends the ball off the face with less effort and is easier on the arm.
360 g or lighter
A lighter racket is easier to swing and to bring back into position between shots. Rackets are listed if they come at 360 g or less.

Rackets that meet all three are ranked by the average of their control, manoeuvrability and sweet spot scores, the three that matter most while you learn.

Questions

What is the best padel racket for a beginner?
Of the 2026 rackets in Zarvo’s catalogue, the Royal Padel M27 Light 2026 scores best for beginners: a round, medium-soft racket weighing 350–365 g with a 9.1 average for control, manoeuvrability and sweet spot. The Royal Padel M27 Poly 2026 and Siux Trilogy Elite 6 2026 come next.
What padel racket shape is best for beginners?
Round, for most beginners. A round racket keeps the sweet spot near the centre of the face, which forgives off-centre hits. In Zarvo’s 2026 catalogue, round rackets average 8.1 for sweet spot against 7.9 and 8.2 for manoeuvrability against 7.8 for diamond rackets. Diamond rackets are built for power instead (8.6 against 6.7).
How heavy should a beginner padel racket be?
Light enough to swing easily for a whole game. This guide lists rackets that come at 360 g or lighter; most adult rackets weigh between 340 g and 375 g.
Should a beginner choose a soft or a hard padel racket?
A soft or medium-soft racket. A softer core gives the ball more speed off the face on slower shots and is easier on the arm, while hard rackets reward players who already hit the ball hard and cleanly.
Do I need to buy a racket to start playing padel?
No. Most UK padel clubs hire rackets, so you can play a few times before you buy one. Each club page on Zarvo says whether the club hires rackets.

How we chose

Zarvo’s racket catalogue records each racket’s shape, weight and feel from the manufacturer, and editorial scores out of 10 from the catalogue source. This guide takes the newest season with scores (2026, 257 rackets), keeps the rackets that meet the three rules above and ranks them by their average control, manoeuvrability and sweet spot score. The 75 2027 rackets in the catalogue are not scored yet, so they join this list once they are. Zarvo is not paid by any racket brand.
